Many years ago a colleague of mine warned that when feelings became the focus of politics, we would see political chaos....

And, now, some decades later, I think his view has been vindicated; too often data & facts are dismissed in light of people's feelings (sometimes referred to as 'legitimate concerns'), stoked by a news media that seen investigation & fact-checking as too expensive and a political class that sees politics merely as an exercise in marketing.
