You're right to the best of my knowledge that I don't know if I am seeing the color pink the same way you do. The same for tastes. But we do tend to agree on the basic nature of say labeling something pink or describing w food as salty or sweet. I have to find the test on the color blue for you. It helps decide where you start labeling a color blue and could compare with someone else's results.
Interesting about taste is I believe that children's taste buds are different from adults. most kids don't like onion but most older adults do. It is a little more complicated than that but I don't recall details.
As far as your cat....many poor people historically have eaten pet food because it is cheaper. I have seen canned pet food that looked and smelled like something I had bought canned. For this we would just likely have to agree that certain flavors have similar taste goals that humans are familiar with such as chicken or salmon.
