@Bobbins this has just reminded me that in my first few years of secondary school, corporal punishment was still totally legal and my school had one older six foot tall teacher who wore the black robe and mortar board, carried a cane everywhere and was basically “the enforcer”. He wasn’t head or deputy, seemingly out of the hierarchy but was the one everyone feared being summoned by. He was like a relic of another age
