At the moment my workaround is to;

1) critical: get them to use the cell network for SMS or voice calls

2) have a separate chat account for family and friends, currently Matrix, and an email address set up with Delta Chat

3) maintain accounts on as many Free Code chat account as I can manage for work purposes

Quite frankly, it's a exhausting mess.
