Originally packaged on the flip side of The Cure's "Madchester" experiment Never Enough, the track Harold and Joe is a song that simultaneously sounds nothing like The Cure and exactly like The Cure. The unfamiliarity is mostly down to Smith's lower and softer vocal delivery, but the picked out guitar line is pure Cure. Stylistically this track owes a lot to the then-popular UK "Baggy" scene.
