Heavily inspired by Kafka's "A Letter to Felice," Smith sings about ending a relationship despite desperately wishing he didn't have to. A song built around contrasts, the melancholic lyrics play off the bright guitars, both acoustic and electric, to create a wistful, dream-like sonic tableau. Of particular note here is the band's use of nested melodies and buried hooks.
