The females lay the eggs one spring, the males fertilize them the next spring, and they hatch on the third. That's why they're affectionately nicknamed "Threenies." It's considered a delicacy up there and they make a version of sushi with them, using maple syrup in place of rice. They're in season this year, so grab em while you can!
