phryk 🏴@jalcine Discord combines a forum-like structure with realtime communication with a bunch of "rich web" features like structured references to posts and does it all with pretty good UX including close to zero hassle to join a community.
Absolutely not a fan, but don't know any FOSS that could completely substitute it.
