A few hours ago, the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, declared:

The European Council opens accession negotiations with Ukraine and (!) Moldova. Both candiates have became official candidates to join the EU!

Also, the European Council granted candidate status to Georgia and will open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina after further reforms.

These are the best news in a very long time.

After long talks in Brussels with Viktor Orbán from Hungary, Orbán abandoned his resistance to the accession negotiations. Although he didn't vote in favour of the decision, he shortly left the room where the other heads of states then voted unanimously in favour of Ukraine and Molodova. (The trick was suggested by German Chancellor Scholz.)
