I've done a curated list of groups at https://fedi.directory/tag/fediverse-groups/

Groups using Guppe or similar systems have their own account addresses, just like non-group accounts do.

There are also new kinds of groups in development, Mastodon has a groups system on the way which will work very differently with more private discussions.
