What I see in DM chat view is:

1st, it look like a chat, right?
2nd, I've shared a couple of messages there, but can't see if it behaves "live" like other chats from other internet services because the sender delays replies.
3rd, when I am notified I am sent to normal threads view.

These all mean that it needs improving as you've just said.
