whether freedom to enslave oneself is freedom is a longstanding philosophical debate. whether taking an action that harms others around you (network effects) is your indeed encompassed by your freedom is another. sometimes refusing to help someone bring harm onto oneself and others around is framed as uncooperative and even hostile, but is it really? when someone doesn't realize self-inflicted harm, are you helping them by reinforcing the harm, or by refusing to take part in it?
