IMO tech blogging is on a downward slope in no small part because we've outsourced the interaction (e.g., comments, pingbacks, even the distribution of links, many “static” websites no longer having RSS/Atom feeds).

We ended up relying on social media or Reddit/Slashdot/HN/etc. for distribution and comments, then gradually moved our thoughts there (where the people are) so here we are.
