I think Sunnyvale might still be better for a very specific type of South Indian food I love but otherwise New York has it all with south Asian food.
There’s a Bangladeshi restaurant and a highly specific moved south India cuisine restaurant (my fave) I love that are hard to get tables at, and of course the entire gamut of Tibetan and Sri Lankan and other spots. There is a Nepali Japanese ramen house.
What I mean with sf has this but not like that: there’s one Yemeni restaurant I like in sf (there’s only one) and it’s very good, but there are 8 very good ones on two blocks in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. They all have clay ovens for homemade bread that’s bigger than your face.
I find that very often in SF (less so in Fremont or Sunnyvale or places that have large enough ethnic groups), ethnic restaurants don’t do it ‘all the way’ partly because it’s expensive and partly no one cares. I really miss that level of care.
