@dem32 Ruby's a language, Rails is a web thing that is badly designed and makes it actually difficult to use Ruby. I joke that Rails is a DSL for creating blogs, but it's barely a joke. It is basically WordPress for Ruby but at least WordPress is fast. Rails is a great way to turn I/O-bound problems into CPU- and memory-bound problems. It is over-engineered by fans of AbstractJavaPatternMasturbatorFactory; it started bad and has only gotten worse. A 100ms response time is shameful in a web application, and a 30-second startup time for that? The stripped-down version of Rails does text/plain "Hello, World!" at about 10% the speed of any other Ruby blob of web gunk.
