as an aside to all this:

the LLM ("AI") problem is contextual. if it had zero negative ecological impact, if it was free and open and owned by all, if it didn't make anyone or any entity a profit, then it'd be a different story. it'd be a tool. maybe not a great one, but it'd be a tool. one might be able to actually refer to it as consulting our "collective consciousness" then. but until that day comes, it's nothing more than yet another destructive force in this world.
