All Eyes on Deck: Demand An Independent Investigation into the Attacks on the 'Conscience' and an End to Israel's Blockade of Gaza
      from The Freedom Flotilla Coalition
All Eyes on Deck: Demand An Independent Investigation into the Attacks on the 'Conscience' and an End to Israel's Blockade of Gaza In the early hours of May 2, 2025, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s ship, Conscience, was twice attacked by a drone only two miles outside of Maltese territorial waters. The bombings occurred at 00:21 and again at 00:23 CEST, striking the ship’s front section where emergency generators and life support systems are located. The assault came just hours before dozens of international volunteers who had travelled to Malta, including prominent activists, were set to board the ship along with most of the humanitarian aid bound for Palestinians who are currently being deliberately starved by Israel in Gaza. Flight path analysis shows that hours earlier, an Israeli C-130 Hercules aircraft took off from occupied Palestine, flew low over the region without landing at Malta’s international airport, descended near the Conscience, and returned several hours later. One Maltese anonymous military source acknowledged that "Israel appears to have flown an unauthorised military aircraft over Malta, an EU state and in breach of our neutrality. This is very serious." This unprovoked bombing of a civilian vessel caused burns and cuts to four people, ignited a fire, inflicted major structural and mechanical damage and caused the ship to take on water. Communications were cut, distress calls were disrupted, and drones lingered overhead, leaving the crew stranded and vulnerable. So far, this attack has been minimised by media and governments world wide. If an unprecedented drone attack on civilians in European waters can go unanswered, what message does that send to the world? Malta is not the only government being tested here. This is a moment of truth for the EU, for international law, and for all those who claim to uphold human rights. This attack is not an isolated incident but part of a broader campaign targeting those who challenge Israel's illegal blockade and systematic denial of humanitarian aid. It is a direct assault on efforts to resist complicity with policies that sustain, enable or exploit siege and genocide. For nearly two decades, Palestinians in Gaza have been denied sufficient food, medicine, clean water, and their fundamental right to freedom of movement. Since October 2023, Israel has intensified its unlawful siege, openly using starvation as a weapon of war, while governments either support these actions, profit from them, or remain silent in the face of blatant war crimes. We Call For: A thorough and independent investigation into the drone attacks on the Conscience. An end to global complicity and protection of Israel's crimes. Countries must stop enforcing Israel's illegal siege and immediately open a humanitarian corridor to Gaza. All states to fulfil their obligations under international law, as reaffirmed by the International Court of Justice’s July 2024 opinion, by ending all forms of economic, military, and logistical support that sustain Israel’s unlawful occupation and related policies. This includes withdrawing any assistance that enables or facilitates the maintenance of the occupation, the expansion of settlements, the blockade of Gaza, or other violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. What Can You Do? Sign this petition and share it widely. Tag UN experts, rapporteurs, and human rights bodies to demand international oversight and a transparent investigation. Contact your government representatives and demand they speak out, condemn this attack, and support safe passage for future missions. Watch and share Freedom Flotilla content. Public scrutiny is our protection. Demand an end to Israel's illegal blockade, an end to the genocide, and self-determination for all Palestinian people. All eyes on deck. Sign now. Share now. Demand accountability. Break the siege. Free Palestine, from the River to the Sea.
