I pity the poor child. He/she (whatever) probably just wanted to pretend to be the opposite sex/grow his/her hair long/cut it short, wear a dress/a football shirt and suddenly gets co-opted into the parents' desire to have a child with a special identity.
Hard to back out of that one now.
