The Goths inhabited Crimea in the 4th Century before being driven West by the Huns. However some remained and are attested to being there even in the late 16th century by a Flemish diplomat for the Habsburgs, Ogier Ghiselin de Busbecq in 1595. He describes them as "a warlike people, who to this day inhabit many villages". On the right is the ruins of the Gothic Crimean capital which the Greeks later named Doros.
