What happened was:

- TV Show started getting written in like 2018 and was specifically meant to be alt-universe so that the writers could make sth that works with the format. Fair enough.
- Season 1 comes out 2021. There are dozens of statements made by executives and others with direct involvement that it's not canon and won't be made canon.
- People gush over the new design and express that they want it to be canon. I express that this new shit is entirely incompatible with the original story, in literally ecery conceivable aspect. I'm told, repeatedly, by multiple people, that I have absolutely nothing to worry about and nobody is taking anything away from me. It's all in my head. Everyone agrees.
- In October 2023, executives appear on video and say that TV Show is canon now. You know, that thing that was literally impossible and would never ever happen and I was a bad guy for being worried about.
- In January 2024, over 500 employees are laid off, mostly in narrative and writing
- It's revealed they spent $250,000,000 on a fucking cartoon and sold it to Netflix for half that much.
- And that's why this character who is all about authenticity and not selling out and being rebellious and distrustful of government and institutions is used to sell Red Bull energy drinks, Secret Lab gamer chairs, KitKat candy bars, NFL football, Netflix streaming subscriptions, $15 animated PNGs on Discord, and some fucking brand of bread in Korea.

And I'm the bad guy for being sad about it.
