    Either way, this doesn’t feel like a path to a better engineering future. Vendors of AI coding tools aren’t inviting us to use their pattern-repeating tools to •augment• our ability to imagine and engineer better things for humans; they’re asking us to •lose• our ability. They’re asking us to cannibalize ourselves. In this AI-driven dystopia, our engineering brains end up like the humans in Wall-E: unable to stand on two feet.
