If you're a woman or girl who plans to someday get married, I cannot stress this enough. Do not change your name. Never change your name. Even before this abominable SAVE Act threatened to take away the right of millions of women to vote, it was already a mistake because life is change and if someday you aren't still married and you maybe don't want that name anymore, it becomes a colossal pain the ass to change it back when your bank accounts, your home, your car title, your bills, your will, your social security, your insurance, and any other thing you can name will have to be changed and they will all require you to go through some sort of bureaucratic fuckery from mild to extremely painful. DON'T DO IT.

I am talking about a specific case here, the tradition of women changing their names in marriage. I'm not getting in the weeds on other types of name changes.
