1. she'd video taped everything and her own evidence made her look like a much bigger abuser than the guy
2. she also video taped herself mocking the guy as a he died at her hand
3. she only belatedly decided that she'd done this intentionally as a "battered wife", completely contradicting her original story
4. she had an exceptionally unsympathetic personality
The evidence got her a 'guilty' verdict and then her personality got her life without parole. It's a compelling case for me because I too am an asshole and was born this way, and I too was raised during the 'self esteem' era - but I was smart enough to realize that adults were blowing smoke up my ass. Sarah believed them and spent her life with the smug assurance of being an exceptional individual who is just, completely inexplicably, living a ruinous life as a permanently drunken megabitch.
