There are also some galaxies visible through the less obscuring parts of the dust. It is a representative color image of infrared data. The stars mostly appear in pale colors of orange and cyan. The most dust-embedded stars are a deep reddish orange, their light dimmed. Jets of material ejected from the two poles of young stars embedded in the dust are distinctly red. Some of the jets are hollow, turbulent, and mostly straight like the leading edge of a jet of water while others are conical or less defined. Some of the red material seems to have been ejected long ago and is more spread out and diffuse, difficult to associate with any stars within the scene. The overall color of the dust is a very muted brown. The area of interest is on the left three-quarters in the darker parts of the dust. The very thickest parts of the dust appear almost black. There is a smallish area of a sheer blue sheet of material in the center of the image, partly appearing to wrap around a star.
