> 'All this is in crisis': US universities curtail staff, spending as Trump cuts take hold
> Furloughs and more staff reductions loom as academic institutions contend with the prospect of even deeper cuts to federal funding.
I don't care, frankly. There's hardly any excuse why universities, with the prices they charge for tuition, et al., and a virtually captive audience, cannot balance their books and maintain relevant staff. I see universities all the time investing in new sports centers and chartering jets to fly out teams to games, etc.…… Universities shouldn't receive any federal funds, as far as I'm concerned---not with the prices they charge students, complacency in the predatory loan status quo, and egregiously wasteful misappropriation of funds they collect.
I know for a fact that multiple universities have private jets and associated flight departments. Are those going to get shuttered in order to save money? Certainly not. How about cuts into college sports programs? No, not going to happen. They'll cut programs associated with technology or medical research and then cry crocodile tears about how they were "forced" to make such sacrifices because of a drought of taxpayer money. Fuck them!
