ɗ𐐩ʃƕρʋI'm ashamed to admit it, but when I was a kid, I didn't understand why we take care of the severely disabled, especially the mentally retarded. To me it seemed like such a waste of effort in humanity's quest for technological and cultural progress. It never occurred to me that technology and culture is not just the artifacts produced and knowledge hoarded, but more importantly the relationships, the social structures, and the world views developed along the way.
