@inthehands I have been reflecting on a role outlined by Machiavelli after a recent and insecure conquest.

The role is a wrecker of opposition who abuses serve a conqueror's purposes, but who may be disavowed, scapegoated, expropriated, or severely punished once the work is accomplished, to make the conqueror look like a savior.
