one of my fave jobs ever was working for this iPhone fixing company.
they were just starting out and didn't have a big market presence, so their whole idea with me running this booth downtown was for advertising.
i sold phone cases and served as drop-off/pick-up location for folks.
i was given a jeep to drive around wherever i wanted, as long as i paid my own gas when i did extra driving. took that jeep out camping lots that summer...
every morning i'd drive downtown and then finagle this awkward dance of setting up a booth totally solo and parking the jeep without having everything stolen.
i learned so much at that job... just from interacting with unhoused folks. i learned that they were actually really nice folks mostly. some of them had various substance use or mental health challenges, but they were lovely and kind and even clever. i also learned that scary oilfield businessmen wearing expensive suits were complete assholes, especially to unhoused people.
