I *have* had people tell me they were going because they got stalked and didn't want someone to dox them, or someone actually did drop their dox. There are people that said it in public, too. We all know why Claire is gone. That is to say, drama has killed swaths of fedi.

There accounts trying to dox randbot. I had never heard of randbot, but I did what seemed like the right thing to do, and for years afterwards, shit-stirrers whined at me about it. That would be enough for most people, but besides that, I had randbot, who turns out to be an ass, trying to bother me. Shit on from both sides by people that scoff at principles and tell me I must not actually hold them, and if I didn't, I'd be gone.

Snow killed neckbeard.xyz and we had to work to move it over to bae.st. Snow also tried (unsuccessfully) to get FSE kicked out of the datacenter, and tried to get instances blocked. I'm rezzing bae.st.

...And then there's this kind of thing you're doing, adding to the shit graf gets. Even you know that he is, if nothing else, committed to making sure people on Poast have a place to post, and the Perpetual Dramacaust makes that harder, not easier.

But for the most part, you're trying to account for a thing that didn't happen. Fedi is still expanding. Go look at @fedilist; even if a lot of them are just Wordpress "instances", there are only about 8,940 of those, meaning there are 22,320 non-Wordpress instances. 7,898 have open registrations; the number would be higher if raids/drivebys weren't a concern. (I would still have registrations open if dealing with that was not such a damn time-sink while I hack on eliminating the problems that shit causes.)
