I want to underscore this:

It’s a lot easier to be bigoted against an abstract, imaginary person. When a real human being stands up and shows their real humanity with passion and eloquence, it can peel off the hangers-on from the hard-core bigots. It can change people. Sometimes enough to change a vote.

The way to protect trans people — or any marginalized group — is therefore to •elevate• them, get them into positions of •visibility• and •power•, and let them speak their truth.
