so its been 24 hours since i saw Anora. I am baffled that people love it so much.

The acting was decent but the story is barely there just "stuff happens", no one is likeable or interesting, writing is terrible with characters often just repeating things over and over, the editing is absent with only really two scenes existing in the 2h19m runtime, you could cut a good 1h45m from the film and youd lose nothing from the plot.

Ani barely has understandable motivation with you wondering until the last 10 minutes what she wanted out of the marriage or expected, shes unsavvy financially, and the reveal is shes naive and actually was in the 1 week long relationship for love and assumed the same for her husband even though we have zero indication of chemistry and hes deeply unlikeable. Ends up being useless twoddle with the final revelation shes just a vehicle for the male writer/director to make the most basic of social commentaries at the cost of her being presented as a real person.

Director seemed insistent on labouring you with every sex scene, absolute chore to sit through and the only people who i think could find it interesting is people who havent gone to a series of clubs/parties with russian oligarch kids or strip clubs and arent aware how supremely dull they are.
