Canadian politicians are delusional if they think that retaliatory tariffs are doing to have any effect. The trade relationship between USA and Canada is completely asymmetrical. The US have no significant dependency on trade with Canada which can't be replaced with US goods. The only serious exception to that is electricity which we supply to the northern US states and then for bazaar reasons then later buy back at more expensive rates. In fact we do that with a lot of things we supply to the USA, which is frankly retarded.

Nor is Trump likely to see the error of his ways and reverse course on the tariffs. It's not his personality type. He's a narcissist. There's zero chance he'll ever admit being wrong even when he clearly is. In my view the best course of action would be to take this opportunity to wean the Canadian economy off of it's dependence on the USA, and then eliminate all trade with the USA 100% until they fucking smarten up or elect someone with more a respectful and cooperative attitude. And we should start doing that immediately with our energy supplies.
