That reporter from The Guardian — and the Harris pollster they talk to — dance around this, but just somehow can’t quite put it together:
They have the causal arrow backwards for a •large• chunk of voters. That chunk didn’t vote for Trump because they thought the economy was bad under Biden; they thought the economy was bad •because• they vote for Trump.
(Yes, there are •also• plenty of people whose “economic concerns” are actually economic concerns. But they are only one part of Trump’s coalition, maybe not even a majority of it. Analysis that misses that fact misses the whole story.)
