If I read an article and then regurgitate it wholesale, that's plagiarism at best and copyright infringement at worst. If I take the information, combine it with other knowledge, and use it in some other way, that's different.

And really I don't see a reason why the rules should differ if humans or machines are doing the synthesis here.
