    @bruces after extensive research, I conclude that the term Henges is actually a misspelling of the word Hedges.

    The move to the use of stone was driven by the Druids in order to provide mproved shelter from the wind that blows on the plateaux .

    The main protagonist for this shift being Benson the Druid, well known for his enjoyment of the wacky backy.
