I read something yesterday referencing theory that distinguishes between safe spaces and something maybe called "collective spaces"; I can't find where I read it.

It reinforced something I've been struggling with recently: we should respect others, but where should we draw the line on saying nothing in order to remain polite? Should people have an expectation that they won't be offended in public spaces?

I don't have a good answer to that yet.
