one of the things that brings me joy about my elderly chinese parents spending time in the west coast USA with me for the first time: they have no preconceptions of what food goes with what.
they are exploring new food types and groups and just putting everything together.
this morning, for breakfast: tortillas with carnitas with sunny side up eggs AND blue cheese.
it helps that we come from a food culture with almost no food rules (eat anything, any time, anywhere, any way) so i really feel like they get me and how i like to eat. chaos is good, especially if it's tasty.
