Democrats win when they are forthright about improving ordinary people's lives and they lose when they seem insincere or like they don't care.

That goes for "identity politics" and economics both because these things are one and the same.

Democrats lie about having a "big tent" while catering to the financial interests and cultural squeamishness of affluent white people. That's a losing proposition because Republicans already own that space for the most part.
