It's quite easy to believe - the plane was coming down at landing speed and the fuselage performed as designed, holding together as the plane gradually came to a stop over the icy runway.
The reason why there were only injuries was because everyone was wearing their seatbelt - there have been a few cases of planes coming down so hard on the runway that the landing gear collapsed and holes ripped out of the fuselage, with only those who weren't wearing their seatbelt dying.
