im noticing the EU has a very strange obsession with needing birth certificates as part of certain immigration processes despite having a whole ass passport for a country that objectively proves citizenship and age (which requires sufficient records locally to even be able to get).

what if someone doesn't have a birth certificate, and instead only ever had a religious record like a baptism certificate? some people aren't born in hospitals, and some people are born in very poor very rural areas.
