I held a couple of fairly senior analytic positions in the IC, was a member of a couple of NIC committees for years, and worked closely with various DDNIs and other NIC leaders. As I observe everything going on from the Musk brunchlords usurping Congressional power and shutting down agencies where Musk has conflicts of interest, to the installation of known foreign assets and theocratic extremists into the national security apparatus, it seems to me that if Trump and his closest circle were carrying out Putin's wishes, things could easily look the same. While it's more likely to be a case of Trump and Putin simply having converging goals, it ends up looking the same as some dark collusion to damage the U.S. In any case I don't think people can yet grasp the extent and permanence of the damage of the Trump II regime.
