In Esther and Erie’s world, Bering Strait’s geography prevented people from Northeast Asia from entering the Americas, leading to the development of a local specie, the leonines. Their cultures were as diverse but less organised than the Mexica or Incas. More different from Europeans than Native Americans, they remained largely unaffected by smallpox, making the colonisation harder for Europeans.
