    @lavaeolus I opted for replacing it with a 8TB nvme SSD and put it in a $30 USB-C enclosure.

    +very compact solution
    +much faster than HDD transfer rates
    +not going to suffer damage from minor physical mishandling

    -$650 for the 8TB NVME drive + $30 for enclosure.
