Did Snopes @snopes forget to write an image description for the first picture they ever posted on Mastodon?

Experts suggest that they've since learned that they should write a so-called alt text given their second and third image posted has one. Only time can tell if this trend is to be continued.

However, the same Mastodon experts are uncertain whether Snopes is aware of the fact that they can edit their own post to insert an image description even after it has been made. Since the entire edit history of a post is also stored and publicly displayed, editing it is never seen as obscuring or hiding a mistake, but rather a transparent correcting of wrongs. As no attempt to communicate this fact to Snopes has yet been made, experts explain Snopes isn't to blame for not fully understanding or utilizing the intricacies of a new platform.
