I think they’re going to enjoy their trip more this time. When they last visited it was right before Covid, they’d just come off the huge international trip that they had been discussing since they were 16 years old (‘when we are 65 and our kids are grown we will retire and we will spend a month in Europe and a month in the U.S.!)

At the time, I had just arrived, we lived in a 350 sq ft studio, everything was weird and new. Now, despite *everything else* we are very settled in and things feel different.

They also hadn’t fully understood that my move was quite permanent, at the time, and maybe even resented it a bit, but they seem to now see that this place has worked out more for me than ‘home’
