翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Thursday, 30-Jan-2025 16:51:26 JST翠星石 @tyil @csantosb It's an article about two different styles of development for proprietary software ("open source").
If only he knew about the "osd"; https://opensource.org/osd
>BitKeeper granted a free license for open source projects, and required projects to store their metadata on company servers.
The license was nonfree and was granted to some members of the Linux project for advertising purposes and was terminated with malice as soon as an Australian developer decided to run netcat on bitkeepers listening port and found that it sent the metadata (rms was right again).
>I’ve heard people go so far as to say, “If a project is not on Github then there is a 0% chance that I will contribute.”
If a project is on github or gitlab, there's a 0% chance I will contribute, as I refuse to run proprietary software.
You can't even view anything on gitlab without running proprietary JavaScript (unless you use the laboratory frontend) and github is intentionally becoming less and less functional without proprietary JavaScript (you cannot reasonably browse project files anymore, as it usually just sends a white page and filed issues only display the initial comment).
