Die Linke does support aid for Ukraine but emphasizes that it should focus on diplomacy, economic measures, and civilian solutions rather than military escalation. Jan van Aken, for example, has argued that arms deliveries risk prolonging the war and suffering, advocating instead for intensified negotiations and economic pressure on Russia to achieve peace. Their stance is not about withholding support but ensuring it leads to long-term solutions rather than fueling further destruction.
Real support would include, among other things, canceling the debts Ukraine was forced to take on out of necessity. Only Die Linke is demanding this. For all the other parties, it seems to be: yes to weapons deliveries, but only as long as they’re fully paid back. In my understanding, help must be unconditional; otherwise, in this context, it’s nothing more than a glorified loan.
