- Embed this notice@Bunsen @Rocc Fun B-36 fact. It had six Pratt & Whitney Wasp Major engines. Each engine had 28 cylinders. Each cylinder had two spark plugs. This is a total of 336 spark plugs per plane.
Due to lead fouling each plug had to be changed after most missions, particularly if the plane flew at high altitude. The plane was also too big for hangars at most SAC bases. This meant that most times it flew it had to have 336 spark plugs changed outdoors.
SAC also occasionally based B-36s in the Arctic.
