A new deposit system with reusable cups for takeaway coffee. You pay a deposit of 5 kr. (less than €1) for the cup, then get your money back at one of the cup-recycling stations they’ve installed around the city. </p><p>It’s a three-year trial. Ahead and around us: a park, trees, historic terraced houses, apartments, businesses, a public toilet, cobbled paths, paved paths, a jumble of bright orange bollards. Centre, just in front of us, unpretty but functional, one of the big, light blue cup-recycling deposit stations. In huge letters: 'Reusable Aarhus'. You scan your bank card or app (unfortunately a digital-only solution, as far as I can tell, with no cash alternative, but better than nothing in the circumstances). Then you put your used cup in.
