IMHO: The main motivation behind the TikTok ban is the NIH (Not Invented Here) syndrome. Data collection on users is perfectly fine if it is done by US companies but not if it's done by a company from another country.
Is this also behind the sudden surge of interest (and money) being put towards ATPROTO? And will ActivityPub be painted as un-american protocol? Right now that is all extremely far fetched from my side, I admit, but I've seen these games before.
